Bannerworx - makeitgood x FatKidOnFire #34

Bannerworx

makeitgood x FatKidOnFire #34

It’s been a while since our last makeitgood x FatKidOnFire feature with Bristol’s Titus Twelve, but our next interview and mix sees us welcoming Sin City‘s label manager BannerWorx. For those of you who don’t know BannerWorx, he does everything from photography to music and also runs HatchaTV. With 20 year experience behind the decks, Bannerworx has dropped us an exclusive 30min mix! From hip-hop to dubstep to grime, it’s safe to say Banner know’s what he’s doing! Sit back and have a read of the interview and a listen to the mix. Be sure to check makeitgood later today, as Lara will be announcing the winners of the makeitgood x Sin City Recordings competition!

How long has Sin City Recordings been going for? The brand Sin City started in 2008 and our first release as Sin City Recordings was in 2009, which was Croydon DubHeads vol 1.

What DJs have released tunes on the label? Varied including of course Hatcha, N-Type, Kutz, Skream, Benga, Chef, Coki, Lost, Cluekid, LD and Crazy D. The forthcoming releases include Stinkahbell, Kinzy, Hizzleguy and Dismantle.

Sin City recently held a night at Fabric (and smashed it), so when’s the next Sin City takeover? Thank you! We are currently on tour with the brand, so the events are being spread out this year. Our next party we are hosting the Dubstep arena at the HDFest in Essex, which we are looking forward to, especially with some added extras just for the Sin City ravers.

Turntables or CDJs? I’ve been using CDJs for a few years – mainly due to the lack of decent vinyl/ record shops to purchase from, also with everyone just sending .wavs it was the easiest option. I’ve recently invested in Serato and back on using turntables and it feels sooo good! No disrespect to Djs only on CDJs; but you seriously don’t use your skills until you get on a pair of Technics.

Any new releases we can look forward to from Sin City? Hatcha vs Lost’s long awaited ‘Albarsha b/w Welcome to Tibet‘ will be released in May, Stinkahbell’s ‘Something in your Eyes b/w GTS & Stalker‘ will be released in June. There is also a series of giveaways by Stinkahbell and Kinzy rolling out via the Sin City website shortly.

Best producer/dj you’ve played a set with? It’s gonna sound biased, but Hatcha. When we first played on pirate radio in the late 90’s we played back to back, and he was always the “darker” Dj playing what was to become the start of the dark garage sound developed by El-B, Noodles and Oris Jay, where as I played more of the “light” selection of the sound. Of late I haven’t really done a back to back set; but if I were to it would be with Chef, Shiverz, Lost, or Beezy – these guys are magicians in the mix, not just chopping it in like so many seem to do.

What music are you listening to at the moment? Any recommendations? My New York roots always has me listening to hip-hop (as you’ll hear on my mix), but I’m a all round person with music, so right now I’ve got Marger’s (grime mc) “Kush Wave” on repeat, but I’ll switch and put on a funky house mix by Marcus Nasty to get me bubbling. Music is always on at my place, can’t hear Eastenders or Holly Oaks in Da Cave.

Any advice to upcoming Dj/producers? Keep true to your sound, develop it, spend time learning new things, don’t just use the presets in Logic. Showcase your own music when doing sets as much as possible, and take feedback when given – because it’s the feedback that will guide you to that break where your tracks are signed to a label like Sin City.

Bannerworx has pulled out all the stops for his exclusive makeitgood x FatKidOnFire mix. It’s amazing! Get it on the download or get it playing – let us know what you think! Catch Alan on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or online.
