Kelly Dean – Bloodline EP

FKOF Review

After Oxóssi’s chart-topping Buried release, which we reviewed earlier this year, Silent Motion Records have recently revealed their next vinyl release – starring none other than Smog Records’ very own (and long-time FKOF fam) Kelly Dean. Not forgetting an appearance from the ever-awesome Chestplate artist Leon Switch. Silent Motion have been steadily pushing their digital label, with the vinyl side of the business due for expansion in 2017.

Kelly Dean has teamed up with Leon Switch to create some of the harshest frequencies we’ve experienced this year with a seriously heavyweight release – dropping with Silent Motion very soon. SMV002 also features Atlanta’s wordsmith Armanni Reign and LA’s bass lyricist ILL Chill on vocal support.

The four-track strong SMV002 doesn’t cut corners, and its powerful low-end and darkness is not for the faint of heart! Wait until you hear the deadly collaborative effort from the producers involved, bridging the US/ UK divide to create an essential record just before Christmas. Here are our thoughts…

FKOF Review

Title tracker Bloodline highlights Kelly Dean’s efforts for 2016, with Armanni Reign joining on this aggressive bass blowout with a few evil incantations of his own. The lyrics fade through this first dark chapter of SMV002, empowering the track’s insane half-step creativity that may also captivate the a few DnB fans too. If you’re into fierce growls and haunting atmospheres, the slower Toe Cutter, featuring Leon Switch, is one for you – what a collab! Watch for the roars to resonate deeply inside your mind, while the track’s drone-esque bassline fully immerses you in some epic low-pitched pressure.

Wasteland continues to hammer on the golden Kryptic Minds halfstep vibe, ignoring the levels and limits with its ear-buzzing synths and violent bass warfare blazing down upon you. The release instigates an almost nostalgic setting; also experienced when listening to the closing track Binary Flow, where ILL Chill combines his lyricism with Kelly Dean’s impressive sound design to really create something special. Top work from all involved.”
