Michael De Feo and PONY at the ODG [Recap #2] - Out and About on 12/03/11

Michael De Feo and PONY at the ODG [Recap #2]

Out and About on 12/03/11

After we bore witness to the complete and utter (but brilliant) madness that was the Johnny Cupcakes Bakery Shop opening on Saturday 12/03/11, we ventured north from Fouberts Place in Carnaby to Bloomsbury to meet the wonderful Mr. Michael De Feo at the Orange Dot Gallery in Bloomsbury.

We covered the private viewing for Michael’s first solo exhibition in the UK on FatKidOnFire last Friday but were amazed to hear Michael was flying over to the UK from NYC for a meet and greet on 12/03/11. Michael flew over for three days (no idea how he managed it, the jetlag alone would’ve killed us) and was at the ODG giving away free signed and numbered prints of his work (we grabbed one – they are amazing) and meeting everyone who managed to come down.

Things got relatively busy (unfortunately not the same hype as Johnny’s store opening) as people came along to grab a piece of the Michael De Feo action and meet the man himself…

Here he is catching up with the lovely ladies Beatrice (UK Urban Wave), Kara (of  Y’OH Streetwear fame) and Kara’s sister.

‘Coming in from the Outside’ ended today, but fear not if you missed the exhibition itself. The Michael De Feo prints are available for purchase from the ODG webstore and are currently in the showroom space that sits below the gallery itself.  I’ll be sad to see Michael’s work go from the walls of the ODG, but luckily before he flew back to the US he managed to flowerbomb London town with one or two signature pieces (head over to Street Art London to see what we mean). Michael’s also coming back to London this summer and we’re hoping to cross paths with him for a proper catch up then. Was great to see you buddy!

It also turns out that Orange Dot (the creative agency behind the ODG) have a certain NYC brand on their books – a brand also on show in the ODG showroom. You might have heard of PONY (Product Of New York) through their vintage football kits or their footwear but after 40 years in the game PONY are making a strong comeback in the UK this season with a great selection of (both current and vintage-inspired designed) new footwear. I caught up with Nick from Orange Dot and had a look round the showroom.

The new collection draws inspiration from classic Nike silhouettes (the AF1 and Dunk seem to feature in these) whilst the vintage-inspired collection channels their inner Puma Suedes. With the onset of summer FKOF reckon you’ll be seeing a lot of PONY kicks gracing the streets of the UK. You heard it here first (haha)!

Huge shout to Nick for inviting us down to the ODG this week and showing FKOF some love. Keep watch for Michael De Feo‘s continuing presence here in London (fire us any pics if you find one of his flowers around the city) and be on the lookout for PONY gracing the finest footwear stores near you this Spring/ Summer.

Peace, love and respect.
