Interview #69

We’ve had a fairly busy week as far as content goes here on FatKidOnFire. Things have gone from strength to strength here at FKOF HQ (this month we celebrated 50,000 views on the FKOF fb page) so a big shout out to everyone reading our stuff, spreading the word and generally supporting the FKOF vision. We appreciate it! Big love.

Anyway, we’re stacked this weekend as far as new brand and artist features go. We’ve got a feature with one of Birmingham’s hottest grime talents that drops tomorrow and an interview with one of the sickest artists we’ve laid eyes on for a long while dropping on Sunday. Oh and an ‘Out and About‘ post somewhere in there too. Stay locked…

We had an email from the owner of Crystale Clothing earlier this week. Jassem only recently started the brand but we were impressed to see him already stocking a range of printed tees. We got talking and the following short interview acts a brief introduction into the brand…

Crystale Clothing is a UK-based brand, established in 2010 by a couple of graphic designers. All our garments are made-to-order so it’s all as fresh as it can be. We love making t-shirts so that’s what we’re gonna do.

Who or what is Cystale Clothing? Crystale Clothing is a UK based brand. We’re trying to give a unique take on what we think streetwear should be and we won’t be done for a long time.

What’s the concept behind the brand? Your designs are simple, strong and striking – do they have an underlying theme? Music and city life.

What does or will make your brand stand out and distinguish itself from the rest of the UK streetwear pack? As the designer, I think it’s because my inspiration comes mostly from American and French fashion. I think that alone will differentiate it from other UK streetwear brands.

Who or what influences you in your work? Urban street fashion, early Hollywood and New York. Those are the three main things that influence Crystale’s ideas at the moment. But yeah other than that I just put general things I like and things I think look good onto a shirt.

What’s your take on the UK streetwear scene at the moment? I’m not too keen on it at the moment to be honest with you, thats really why I started making my own tees, because I couldn’t find any that I could wear. I think a lot of the UK streetwear right now is focusing way too much on making a statement rather than just looking good.

Where do you see you and Cystale being in 5 years time? I see Crystale in various stores in London, New York & Tokyo and I see myself doing the same thing I’m doing right now; making shirts and drinking Kool-Aid.

Top 5 favorite albums?

  1. Kanye West – 808’s And Heartbreak
  2. Wiz Khalifa – Rolling Papers
  3. Kid Cudi – Man on the Moon
  4. Kings of Leon – Only by the Night
  5. T.I – Paper Trail

Shoutouts Check out one of our supporters Dj Skeet Skeet – and family from the start Zest Clothing.

Jassem and the rest of the Crystale crew are taking their dreams and doing something with them; they’ve also got sweats in the store and are in the process of producing a range of accessories. We’ll be keeping an eye on the brand to see how they develop – if they’ve caught your eye follow them on Twitter and on Facebook. The Crystale blog is worth a look-in as well, some cool stuff on there!
