It’s been too long since the last ‘New music…‘ post here at FatKidOnFire. That’s mostly in part with my inability to juggle my work and play (work’s awesome but is taking over but then I did just spend four days being drunkenly cultured in Budapest). So I thought I’d make up for my indiscretions and get a bumper post done. And when I say bumper I sure do mean it!
Hot off the huge success of winning the Steve Lawler remix competition, our boy Blynk (formerly Undaground Soundz) drops his next single on Rankadank records. ‘Lights / In The City‘ are two awesomely chilled dubstep tracks and would be a great addition to any decent collection (purchase links via the last clickthrough).
The first time I heard Emalkay’s ‘When I Look At You‘ it quickly became one of my favourite dubstep tracks. I’m always unsure of hitting remixes of my favourite tunes but when I heard David Heartbreak‘s ‘I Love Moombahcore’ refit I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. It flips the track on its head and – dare I say it – puts a better edge on the original. Not something I say about remixes very often!
WhiteNoise‘s remix of Nancy Sinatra’s ‘Bang Bang’ is a similar story. Chilled opening, dirty electrodub drop. Absolute banger!
I’ve only just discovered The Weeknd (and no that’s not a typo). If you haven’t heard of this elusive Toronto-based producer, stop what you’re doing and turn this up. Beautiful. ‘Wicked Games’, ‘The Morning’ and ‘House of Balloons – Glass Table Girls’ are just a few of the standout tracks. There isn’t a bad track on this release.
Our boy Demon and the rest of the Macabre Unit family are long time purveryors of bass music. Since 2001 the boys have been dropping one dutty riddim after another. If you missed out on their historical back catalogue, fear not as they’re releasing the ‘Education LP’ which:
Encapsulates how the sound grew from it’s inception, and showcases classics alongside never before heard riddims and previously unreleased dubplate only VIP’s. It drops on in house label Unit Jamz.
Peace, love and respect.
