Out and About over the next few weeks…

It’s been quite a while since our last ‘Out and About over the next few weeks‘ post (and the other recurring News stories we have) here at FatKidOnFire. Luckily, we’ve got a new one for you guys tonight and are coming back with a ‘New Music…‘ post later this week. It’s going to be busy!

We’ve got big, big love for the Audio dOughnuts crew. If you’re a long-term reader of FKOF you’ll know that by now (and if not, well now you know!) but you’ll not understand our respect and appreciation for what these guys do until you reach one of their events. Luckily enough, they’ve got one this Sunday (might as well enjoy the bank holiday if you can!) at Corsica Studios. With a lineup that’d make even your granny spit her teeth out in amazement you’d frankly be a bit daft to miss this one. PR below and peep the Facebook event page here. See you on the dancefloor.

Having already hosted three of their sold-out eponymous ‘Presents…’ nights in the heart of London, Audio Doughnuts present the fourth – and penultimate – ‘Presents…’ of 2011. As the fast-expanding imprint leads up to their first anniversary on November 25th, this particular event celebrates the release of Audio Doughnuts’ first single from The Fives, ‘What You Do / Hottest By Far’ – available worldwide shortly after the show.

In true Audio Doughnuts style, the night boasts a line-up spanning not only the twisted genome of UK bass music but the fresh, eclectic sounds bursting out of Europe and the US.

Next up is a shout out to our great friend, and extremely talented artist, Mat McIvor. We’re 110% stoked as he’s currently featuring in an exhibition in Cornwall alongside some of the world’s greatest urban artists (Obey’s Shepard Fairey, D*Face, Mr Jago etc) – it’s awesome seeing Mat get the support he deserves! Peep the PR below, and hit up Mat on Twitter or Facebook if you need any further details.

URBAN ART SHOW
20th Aug – 5th Sept 2011

Original and editioned works by some of the biggest names in International Urban Art. There is also key input from local artists to make this show of genuine interest to local people. A large wall painting [shown above] has been created by Penzance-based artist Mat McIvor, we will be showing painted surfboards by St Ives-area artist Tess Sheerin, and we will also be presenting a local collection of vintage skate decks. We expect that this striking exhibition will appeal to an audience beyond the usual ‘art’ audience, with strong appeal to the young people of West Cornwall.

International Urban Artists involved are as follows: Armsrock, Banksy, Beejoir, Blek Le Rat, Date Farmers, D*Face, Elbow Toe, Faile, Shepard Fairey, Rene Gagnon, Herakut, Mr Jago, Logan Hicks, Mantis, Adam Neate, Luc Price, Matt Small, Chris Stain, Sweet Toof, Swoon, Nick Walker and Asha Zero.

This fantastic exhibition runs for just 2 weeks between 20 August and 5 September… So don’t miss it! The exhibition, with all of its diverse elements, will also show on the gallery website.

Next up is an amazing looking event run by our new friends over at Gamma Proforma. We’ve been talking to the guys for a while, but if you’ve not heard of them before check them out:

Back in 2000 Rob Swain auctioned off slabs of his precious vinyl collection to raise funds to set up Gamma Proforma. The idea was to create a new kind of label, beyond the traditional music model, a publisher that would embrace all forms with an emphasis on promoting the work of upcoming creatives via bespoke products, events and projects. With no single genre or discipline headlining, the label would take no references from any particular style or movement.

This coming Friday, 26th August, sees the Gamma Proforma lot host Lyken at one of our favourite venues in London; XOYO. The event a) free and b) is sponsored by Absolut Vodka and VnA so you know it’ll be good. The first 30 attendees will also receive a limited edition artists pack that includes a signed Giclee print and hand-made soundtrack – so you’ve really no excuse not to go! PR below and Facebook event page is here.

Lyken’s layered & gestural work captures turbulent events & cycles along the timeline of a living cosmos. These are worlds within worlds, chemical universes revealed at a microscopic level. His music reflects this same detail, decayed sounds and transmissions shimmer in space, a melodic sea of scientific musical patterns that chime with that certain universal emotion.

The first 30 attendees will receive a limited edition artists pack that includes a signed Giclee print and hand made soundtrack.

This is a free event, everyone is welcome. Let us know if you’re coming on Facebook or by emailing Gamma Proforma.

Finally, something we’re extremely excited about (yes, so excited that it needs to be emboldened). A new venue opened in one of our favourite UK cities this time last year. And that venue is hosting one of our favourite ever hip-hop acts in a fortnight. And we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky person. Can you sense our excitement yet?!

Yes, we have a pair of tickets to see Public Enemy at the HMV Institute on Monday 5th September to give away to two lucky readers of FatKidOnFire.

To win these tickets, all you have to do is leave a comment below with your name and a contact email address. It is that easy.

[Boring bit: You must be over 14 to enter, if you’re under 16 you must be accompanied by an adult and photographic is ID required to collect the pair of tickets and enter the venue]

We’ll notify the winner by Friday 2nd September – but if you don’t hear from us don’t fear. We have a treat for you as well.

Simply enter “chuckd” in the promotions code box after clicking -> this link <- to get £25 tickets for just £15 (that’s a rather nice 40% discount for those of you wondering). Aren’t we nice?! Good luck to everyone entering the competition and we’ll hopefully see you there!

Peace, love and respect.
