Funnily enough, the last Out and About post I wrote preceded me blowing my eardrum (and putting myself out of action for almost a month) at the beginning of the year.
Hopefully that’s not a situation I’ll be repeating anytime soon – but it is that time again. This weekend’s got some beauties lined up…
Arguably two of the most respected producer/ DJs in the 140bpm space, VIVEK and Mala have never been known to shy away from audio greatness – something the Deep Medi label-mates are continuing with their latest night, SYSTEM. This weekend’s ‘Carnival Special’ promises to be no different.
If you’re unsure of what to expect, just read the feedback left on previous event pages.
Doors are at 8pm, the session starts at 10.
Expect a recap in the coming weeks but have a quick read through Pete’s initial thoughts…
Fresh off their first anniversary event that had Coki headlining a lineup for the ages that included Tunnidge, Seven, Jay 5ive and V.I.V.E.K., Reconstrvct is back in style, as usual, with another absolute killer. Titled “Small World,” the lineup has the performers hailing from all over the globe: residents Truenature and ambassador Joe Nice, MVC from Hong Kong, Buenos Aires-based Daleduro, Killawatt and Thelem out of London and, rebooked after visa problems, Deep Medi’s Goth-Trad from Tokyo.
Besides the huge lineup, this one’s extra special as Goth-Trad will be performing a live PA set. This will also be the PA’s debut. It was a treat seeing Author, UK duo of Ruckspin and J. Sparrow, perform a live PA set at Reconstrvct VI, just around the time robo-rodent (credit: A-Trak) deadmau5 proclaimed to ‘expose’ electronic music performers as mindless “button-pushers.”
Thelem and Killawatt are two artists who’ve had big years and even bigger futures. The Biome collab ‘Juganu’ from Thelem has been a favorite for a long time and I’ll hopefully be hearing it on Saturday properly, along with more percussive perfection. Killawatt’s productions have garnered him acclaim for their variation and refreshing sound. The excitement couldn’t be higher for the regulars, the newcomers or anybody reading this (I hope). My condolences for anyone within reach but not attending.
Joe Nice also let me in on a little secret – he’s got exclusives. Alright that’s not a secret at all, but from his old school set last event, you can bet he’s itching to unleash the freshness and big tunes from the likes of Content, Gantz, Wayfarer and many more. Expect prime form.
Tunnidge described the birthday event as “DMZ warehouse vibes in Brooklyn.” Yeah, don’t miss “Reconstrvct Presents: Small World.” We’ll have the photos and coverage afterwards.
Wherever you are, if you’re at a loose end and can make either of these events make sure you reach.
These two events are setting a precedent that’s going to be damn hard to match – let alone beat – in the future.
Peace, love and respect.
